Insulin syringe units to milliliters (U-100)
On a U-100 insulin syringe, 100 units equal 1 milliliter, so every unit is 0.01 mL. The three common barrel sizes hold 30, 50 and 100 units.

Insulin syringes are graduated in units rather than milliliters. A U-100 syringe is scaled for 100 units per milliliter, so one unit is always one hundredth of a milliliter, whatever the syringe size. The size only changes how many units the barrel holds: 30 on a 0.3 mL syringe, 50 on a 0.5 mL syringe and 100 on a 1 mL syringe.
That fixed ratio is what makes reconstitution arithmetic work. Once a vial has been mixed, the concentration in milligrams per milliliter tells you how much drug each unit carries. The reconstitution matrix and the Klarovel calculators do that step.
This figure is a volume conversion, not a dose. It says nothing about how much of any substance to use.
| Units | Milliliters | Fits in |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | 0.05 mL | 0.3 mL, 0.5 mL, 1 mL |
| 10 | 0.10 mL | 0.3 mL, 0.5 mL, 1 mL |
| 20 | 0.20 mL | 0.3 mL, 0.5 mL, 1 mL |
| 25 | 0.25 mL | 0.3 mL, 0.5 mL, 1 mL |
| 30 | 0.30 mL | 0.3 mL, 0.5 mL, 1 mL |
| 40 | 0.40 mL | 0.5 mL, 1 mL |
| 50 | 0.50 mL | 0.5 mL, 1 mL |
| 60 | 0.60 mL | 1 mL |
| 75 | 0.75 mL | 1 mL |
| 100 | 1.00 mL | 1 mL |
